A Predator Lurks
There’s a story here…
This big cat hangs in our living room, and it’s not because we’re proud hunters. We have this cougar because it used to belong to our brother-in-law, Bill.
Bill didn’t just enjoy hunting; it’s a big part of who he was…
One day, when Bill was hunting, this particular cougar was stalking him. It followed him for a while, and it quickly evolved into a situation where he had to kill or be killed. He decided to take it out before it took him out. He had it mounted, and after he passed, my husband inherited it.
Bill was a great guy. Today we love to share this story when people come over and ask why we have a cougar on our wall.
I was looking at it the other day, and thought, “That cougar is like the enemy.” He is constantly lurking, seeking someone to destroy. He is patient, and he watches our every move. He knows where our weakness is, and with laser focus, he waits for that perfect moment of vulnerability , and then he attacks.
Our faith is no guarantee he won’t attack, in fact, it makes us more valuable prey for the enemy. If he can take us down, how many more are coming down with us?
We have to remain vigilant. We have to take every thought captive because our adversary is deceptive and peppers the truth with his lies. We need to exercise discernment, and put on the armor of God. If we don’t know what truth is, how are we to recognize his lies in a world that says wrong is right and right is wrong.
Hold fast, Christian, and stay the course; you have a defender who’s already defeated the enemy, and he lives inside your heart. His name is Jesus, and if you don’t know him, and you want to, just right here, right now, open the door to your heart and let him in…
““Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”
